Liberia Airport, Guanacaste Costa Rica

Liberia Airport Costa Rica

Liberia Airport Code is LIR. The idea of providing an airport to the Guanacaste region goes back to the Daniel Oduber presidency (1974-1978), when the construction started in the place called Llano Grande (12km, 8mi west of the city of Liberia). The airport was reinaugurated on the 28th of October, 1995, after spending 700 million colones, and renamed Daniel Oduber Intl Airport, in honor to a costarrican ex-president. In year 2000 the tourism industry began to develop Guanacaste area being the most visited destination and the number one developed province of Costa Rica. Thanks to efforts of the private industry Delta Airlines started to flight to Guanacaste in 2001. From that date, many other airlines are arriving daily and increasing their flights frecuency.
